Attorney General Announces Probe into Trump Rivals and Jeffrey Epstein Links
This past Friday, the Attorney General appointed Jay Clayton to head an inquiry into political adversaries of the President and their links with Jeffrey Epstein. This move came just after Trump instructed her to begin the investigation.
In a statement, Bondi commended Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. She stated, “As with all matters, the department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”
This action seems to diverge from a July memo from justice department officials which stated that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for further inquiries. As per the memo, investigators “lacked sufficient evidence to pursue cases against other parties.”
Trump Demands Focus on Democrats in Epstein Case
This news comes as increasing pressure from Trump on congressional Republicans to oppose the full release of files concerning Epstein before an key congressional decision in the coming days. Several lawmakers are anticipated to support the release.
Recently released communications from Jeffrey Epstein have brought attention to Trump’s past involvement with the convicted criminal, including details that his knowledge of Epstein’s behavior exceeded prior admissions.
On Friday, Trump declared he would ask the DOJ to investigate connections between Epstein and Democratic figures, specifically naming Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Interestingly, Trump also described the “Epstein hoax” as a “deception”.
