Disturbing Footage Shows Point Law Enforcement Are Stabbed in Unexpected Assault
A ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a partner that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist following a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Officer knifed," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage made public by the agency revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.
He collided with the policeman who lost balance and went down to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell suffered two open wounds to his neck and additional injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to stem his partner's blood loss prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
This most recent recognition comes after the trio of policemen won organizational Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local union branch in April 2024.
They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in July 2024.
"The responses of all three officers ultimately rescued each other and ensured no members of the public experienced any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, according to authorities.
