England Scout for World Cup Training Facilities Following Fears of Missing Out On First-Choice Base to Holland.

The FA has sent officials to the America this week to evaluate potential facilities for the upcoming global finals, amid growing concerns that their top-pick location could be allocated by the Dutch national team.

Draw Complications Change Plans

Manager Thomas Tuchel had earlier approved an FA proposal for England to locate in Kansas after a warm-up training period in Fort Lauderdale. Yet, after the recent tournament draw, there are now concerns that the Netherlands, who play their group games in Kansas, will be awarded first refusal on the chosen facility at Sporting Kansas City—a state-of-the-art centre used by US Soccer.

The world governing body assigns training camps based on geographic location and FIFA rankings if there is a dispute, with the draw potentially placing the FA against the Netherlands and Argentina for sites in the tournament's south-central region.

Considering Other Options

With England's group stage matches set to take place in Dallas, Boston, and New Jersey, the FA is now reportedly investigating other locations on the east coast. The association began its scouting process for training bases at the start of the year, with Tuchel and technical director John McDermott visiting possible locations during the Club World Cup last summer.

Despite this advanced planning, there was always an understanding that the final tournament draw could significantly alter their plans.

Knockout Stage Travel Strategy

England face the eighth most arduous group stage schedule in terms of mileage. Winning Group L would set England on course for a last-32 game in Atlanta, then a potential round of 16 tie in Mexico City.

  • Significant Change: The FA may decide to move between venues for the knockout stages if England progress, a major departure from its usual protocol of maintaining a fixed tournament base.
  • Tournament Organizers Recommendation: FIFA is understood to be actively encouraging such a flexible strategy for the vast 2026 tournament.

Once the base camp is finalized, the FA will focus on organizing two warm-up matches in Florida at the start of June.
