Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to reprise their roles in the upcoming Hunger Games series movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their cameos will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:

  • Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

  1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The eagerly awaited film is slated for November 2026 release.

Moviegoers can now anticipate the return of these defining characters to the cinema.
