Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event took place on the third rotation when marshals were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to change his damaged front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, the Formula 1 racer Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was seeing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two guys running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track track officials can be allowed to just sprint across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the FIA

"On lap three, track officials were notified and put on alert to access the circuit and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch marshals were rescinded and a caution signal was raised in that zone"

"The examination is ongoing what occurred following that moment"
